My name is Beth Klein. I am a mental health therapist with a prior career in corporate business. I am passionate about helping high achieving Minnesota women thrive by helping them break through what's holding them back from having an enriching career and personal life. My approach is direct and honest, using methods that are proven to work. My services include anxiety therapy to manage racing thoughts and overthinking, systemic-informed insights for reducing workplace stressors, and feminist-informed therapy for improving communication and setting boundaries in relationships.
The high-responsibility career that you worked so hard for sometimes makes life's stressors all the more difficult. You get up in the morning feeling tired from a restless night's sleep due to all the balls you are keeping in the air, are anxious about an upcoming meeting with your controlling CEO, are tired of working harder because you are a woman, are worried that you haven't been giving your kids enough attention, and are thinking you might be reaching burnout. You go to work, pretend that you are OK, and make shit happen because that is what you do. But you are feel lonely with no one to talk to who truly understands. When this goes on for a while, you know that something has to change.
I have the skills to help you regain focus and the zest for life that got you here. I utilize cognitive behavioral therapy to help you to turn around negative thinking patterns that cause additional unnecessary stressors. You can't always change what happens to you or how difficult other people are but you can take another look at the situation to reduce it's impact on you. I also emphasize the importance of vulnerability and embracing imperfections to create meaningful personal change and help people become your best self.
What is CBT?
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a technique that helps individuals manage their problems by changing the way they think and behave. Our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are all interconnected. Using this form of counseling, an individual learns to change their negative thought patterns to change their behavior. Changing negative thought patterns can lead to changes in feelings and behavior, resulting in emotional health and enhanced well being.
CBT is commonly used to treat a variety of mental health disorders and issues, including anxiety, depression, and stress. Therapists trained in cognitive behavior therapy help individuals identify and challenge their distorted thoughts and beliefs. Using CBT can help develop healthier thinking patterns and coping strategies.
How CBT can help high-achieving women
Because Cognitive Behavior Therapy deals with managing thoughts and behaviors, it can be particularly beneficial for high-achieving women in the Twin Cities who are naturally action and goal oriented. Using CBT, an individual challenges their negative thought and behavioral patterns that can get in the way of success, such as imposter syndrome and perfectionism. This ‘re-framing’ of negative thoughts can help women achieve more in several ways:
-
With high achievement often comes added stress and anxiety. Both sap energy and productivity. CBT teaches high achievers specific techniques, such as mindfulness, to manage their negative feelings.
-
High achieving women can sometimes succumb to imposter syndrome and self-critical beliefs. This form of psychotherapy replaces these thoughts with positive self-esteem, higher self-confidence, and stronger resilience.
-
Since CBT is a goal-oriented approach, it can help high achieving individuals to set goals that are specific with clear objectives.
-
In the pursuit of goals and success, high achieving women can sometimes drive themselves to professional and personal burnout. CBT helps high achievers to develop thought patterns that promote self-care and work-life balance.
By building these skills and strategies into their thought process, high-achieving women in Minnesota can learn to better balance their personal and professional lives, effectively attain their goals, reduce their stress and anxiety levels, and improve their overall well being.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is generally used for a wide range of mental health issues, but there are times when it may not be effective. CBT requires a level of client commitment and motivation. Clients who are unwilling or unable to engage in a structured approach may not benefit from CBT.
In addition, some conditions may not respond as well to CBT techniques alone:
Severe Cognitive Impairments: Individuals with significant cognitive impairments or severe intellectual disabilities may struggle to effectively use CBT techniques.
Severe Depression: While CBT can be effective for depression, if it's very severe, people might initially require medication to become more receptive to counseling.
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): With PTSD, CBT alone might not address all aspects of a client's needs. In these cases, other therapeutic treatment such as EMDR may be more suitable.
Personality Disorders: CBT can be helpful for some personality disorders, but it often needs to be part of a broader treatment plan.
In the situations above, as your therapist, I would recommend a combination of treatments or alternative therapies as appropriate.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) therapists help individuals manage their mental health by focusing on exploring the real connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
CBT therapists will start by assessing your situation, including understanding your individual thought patterns and behaviors. The therapist will work with you to identify specific issues to work on, and to understand how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected.
Based on this assessment, your therapist will work with you on setting your goals. It is important that these goals are specific, measurable, and achievable. Your therapist will help with this.
Using proven and established CBT techniques, your therapist will work with you to identify and challenge negative thoughts that stand in the way of higher success and achievements. A therapist will show you ways to replace these thoughts with more realistic and positive ones.
CBT is a learning process. Your therapist will teach you specific coping skills and strategies to manage stress and anxiety. This includes assigned ‘homework’ for you to practice the skills learned in sessions to maximize the benefits of therapy.
Your therapist will regularly review your progress in achieving your goals, and provide you with the support, encouragement, and accountability you need to keep you focused and engaged in the process.
