Meet Beth Klein, MS, LMFT | Feminist OCD therapist in Minnesota

Hi, I'm Beth. I empower women to break through patterns that are no longer serving them and find happiness and fulfillment from within.

Many of the women I help are successful, high-achieving perfectionists. They're often laser-focused on their careers, leaving little time for self-care, personal passions, or relationships. While their drive has gotten them far in life, it also goes hand-in-hand with overthinking, anxiety, and low self-esteem.

I'm dedicated to helping women like you do the work needed to create lasting change. The process isn't easy, but it's worth it. I've seen how transformative OCD therapy can be, and I know that healing is possible for you, too.

I see myself as your partner through this process. I'm fully invested in your well-being, and I'm highly engaged in each session. Together, we'll help you get to the root of your struggles, reconnect with your values, and find tools that actually help ease your OCD symptoms.

My approach to OCD counseling

I'm trained in a number of different counseling methods, including exposure and response prevention (ERP), which is often considered a first-line approach in effective OCD treatment.

When using this approach, I'll guide you in slowly confronting the distressing thoughts that are at the core of obsessive-compulsive disorder. From here, you'll learn skills to tolerate the anxiety that comes along with your obsessions without needing to engage in compulsive behaviors to soothe you.

In addition to exposure response prevention therapy, I'm also trained in:

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)

  • Narrative therapy

  • Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT)

  • Solution-focused therapy (SFT)

  • Inference-Based Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy

  • Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)

When treating OCD (or other issues like anxiety disorders, relationship challenges, and more), I also bring a feminist, social justice-oriented lens. Our culture and society can directly impact how we move through the world, and it's important to acknowledge these forces to heal fully.

Why choose Firefly Counseling for OCD therapy in Minnesota

Finding the fit is a key part of successful therapy. Here are a few reasons why I might be the right mental health professional for you.

I USe Evidence-based treatments for ocd.

While exposure and response prevention is a relatively new treatment, studies show how effective it can be. I've also seen it work firsthand in my years as a therapist. By using ERP and other research-backed methods, I help my clients improve their mental health and find true, lasting relief.

I WANT TO HELP YOU NOT NEED THERAPY.

You don't need to be in therapy forever (though it's always okay to return). My goal is to help you feel empowered to continue growing on your own, even after our work together is complete. I'm committed to helping you get the results you're looking for.

I’M ACTIVELY INVOLVED IN YOUR CARE.

If you're looking for a "sit back and listen" kind of therapist, I'm not the right fit. I'm actively engaged in sessions, asking questions and getting in the work with you. As your trusted partner through this process, I'll help you reconnect to what's actually important to you and build the skills you need to grow.

FAQs about OCD counseling

  • There are many different types of credentials for mental health professionals. I'm a licensed marriage and family therapist, but other OCD counselors might be licensed clinical social workers, licensed professional counselors, or licensed psychologists.

The type of credential that your therapist has isn't as important as the methods they use to treat OCD. Make sure your therapist is trained in techniques that have been shown to effectively treat OCD, like exposure and response prevention and cognitive behavioral therapy, and that they have actual experience treating OCD as well.

It's also important to make sure your therapist is a good personality match for you. Therapy is a vulnerable process, so feeling comfortable talking to your counselor is key. I recommend scheduling a free consultation (most therapists offer them) to see if a potential therapist is a good fit for you.

  • For some people, OCD symptoms have been a steady presence throughout most of their lives. Other people may notice that symptoms flare up around stressful life events or changes, like a new job, marriage or divorce, moving, and more.

In therapy, you'll learn the skills you need to manage OCD symptoms now and in the future. We can't make OCD go away completely, but we can empower you to take your mental health and well-being into your own hands.

  • OCD can often be effectively treated using talk therapy methods like ERP, CBT, and more. I've seen many people experience significant improvement with therapy alone.

In some cases, medication like selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) might be a helpful addition to their treatment plan. Medication can be prescribed by your doctor or a clinical psychiatrist.

You and I will work together to customize your treatment to your specific needs and goals. I can make case-by-case recommendations and referrals if I feel that additional treatments may be necessary.

  • Getting appropriate diagnosis and treatment (such as therapy) is the best way to effectively treat OCD.

At the same time, making lifestyle changes can be a helpful addition to formal OCD care. Learning stress management strategies or relaxation techniques, eating a healthy diet, getting plenty of sleep, moving your body, and connecting with others can all help improve your overall well-being.
